my self action is going very good writing a letter to the mayor is kind of tricky. I fell like everything is very important and it has to be absolutely perfect. It's a lot of pressure . If he does read my letter it'd be a big thing and  if it changes his mind. Like that's nuts to think about.

Holy, WOW

self action

my self action is going to be cleaning up the area around superstore north. i chose to do this because its gross. after the snow melts all the garbage from in the snow sticks to the trees around and it makes a good neighbor hood look bad. http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/saskatchewan/city-of-regina-rolling-out-smaller-garbage-carts-1.2951377 if you read this article it talks about how Regina want to give us smaller garbage bin! as of right now our garbage gets picked up once a week and recycling every 2 weeks. so instead of letting smaller bins, and spending all this money why don't we just go every two weeks for both. do you know how much more simpler this would be?  plus how much less garbage we would use and people would recycle more! on this website there is a poll for people to take with 3 options. the question ask "would you opt for a smaller garbage bin, if it was offered to you?
  • yes! most of my wast is going into the blue bin anyway!
  • no the current cart is the right size
  • actually i need a larger cart not smaller
but yet no other option. i feel like the city of Regina is wanting to give us smaller garbage cans because they don't want to cut peoples hours. if the city was smart they would listen to the every two weeks.

Our world is literally covered in garbage.
You can walk down the street and see tons of garbage people trow away, out the window of the car, after drinking a coffee and no garbage can around just put it on the sidewalk. Literally any scenario you can think of some one has done it. People think its okay i can leave it here cause someone else will pick it up or they will throw theirs away mine doesn't make a big difference! It really does! Canada produces more garbage than any other country in the world. Speaking of waste the average human throws away 3.2 a kilogram (7.1 pounds) DAILY. Plus if you take the garbage from your garbage can 48% of it would be recycling 40% of it is compostable and only 12% of it is actually garbage. This is even with our new blue bins. Plus if we recycle more for example use recycle products like recycled paper turned into toilet paper we could save

  1. 47,962 trees
  2. 3,204 cubic meters of landfill space ( 181 trucks of garbage)
  3. 65.5 million litters of water
  4. Avoid 4,567 kilograms (10068.51 pounds) of air and water pollution.

On the fact of recycling if you where to recycle as much as you can it could come back and benefit you in the long run. Like when you go camping you tend to take a sleeping bag. right? Well if you recycled 53 2L pop bottles its to make all the fiber fills for a sleeping bag. plus on average in Canada in total we throw away about 2 million bottles an hour. That's 48 million bottles a day. For more information on recycling plastics you can go to http://korchynskibio20.blogspot.ca/ .
